We will depart from Kathmandu and travel to Lhasa, arriving either at Gonggar Airport or the Train Station. After landing, we will drive for about an hour to reach the city, where we will check in to our hotel. The day will be spent resting and allowing our bodies to acclimatize to the high altitude of Lhasa (3650m). It's important to take it easy to adjust to the thinner air. The rest of the day is free to relax and explore the surroundings at a leisurely pace. We will overnight in a hotel in Lhasa.
we will spend two full days exploring the highlights of Lhasa. Today, we will visit the iconic Potala Palace, the former residence of the Dalai Lama and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Afterward, we will head to the Jokhang Temple, an important pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhists, followed by a stroll through the bustling Barkhor Bazaar, where you can experience the vibrant local culture and shop for souvenirs. These visits will give us a deeper understanding of Lhasa's rich history, spirituality, and heritage. The rest of the day will be at leisure to explore further or relax.
We will continue our exploration of Lhasa by visiting two significant Tibetan Buddhist monasteries: Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery. Drepung, once one of the largest monasteries in Tibet, offers a fascinating glimpse into Tibetan monastic life and is known for its beautiful architecture. Sera Monastery, famous for its lively debates among monks, is another key cultural and spiritual site. These visits will enrich our understanding of Tibetan Buddhism and its deep roots in the region. Both days are filled with a combination of historical, spiritual, and cultural experiences, offering a well-rounded view of Lhasa’s heritage. After these immersive excursions, we will return to our hotel for an overnight stay.
