Trip Overview
Tour Plan
Our representative rings your hotel with a wake-up call and the morning's weather read — these flights go in clear conditions only, so the call is as much a go/no-go as an alarm. Have your camera or phone charged, your passport or ID to hand, and a warm layer ready; the airport is cold at that hour.
Your driver collects you from the lobby and takes you to the domestic terminal at Tribhuvan International. Kathmandu is barely awake at this hour, but allow for traffic regardless — the early departure exists because the mountain air is clearest before the day warms up.
Check in at your airline's counter, collect your boarding pass and clear security. There is time for tea or coffee in the waiting area before boarding is called.
You board a small propeller aircraft, typically 15 to 18 seats, configured so that every seat is a window seat — nobody on this flight sits in the middle. The crew runs through the route and names the peaks you will see before take-off.
The aircraft lifts out of Kathmandu (1,400 m) and turns toward the range. Within minutes the city gives way to green hills, and the first white summits appear along the horizon. The pilot begins live commentary, naming each mountain as it comes into view.
This is what you came for. The aircraft reaches within 32 km of the summit and the pilot banks gently so passengers on both sides get a clear line to it. Everest (8,849 m) fills the window with Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam and Kangchenjunga ranged around it. The light at this hour is the reason for the early start — golden, sharp and free of glare.
One tip worth taking: hold your camera slightly away from the window rather than against it, and the reflections disappear.
The aircraft turns back toward the valley. The peaks stay with you a while longer off the wing before the range slips behind the foothills.
You land back at Tribhuvan International, where every passenger is handed a personalised Everest Flight Certificate — a small thing, but a good one to keep.
Your driver returns you to your hotel in time for a full breakfast, with the whole day in Kathmandu still ahead of you.

Frequently Asked Questions
The flight usually takes off very early in the morning (around 6:00 AM) to maximize the chances of clear skies. However, mountain flights are heavily dependent on weather conditions for visibility. If the flight is canceled due to bad weather, you will typically be offered the option to reschedule for the next available day or receive a full refund.
The flight itself lasts approximately 50 to 60 minutes. However, the total duration of the tour, from hotel pick-up to drop-off back at your hotel in Kathmandu, is typically around 2.5 to 3 hours. This time accounts for the early morning hotel transfer, check-in, the flight itself, and the return transfer.
Early booking is highly recommended. To secure your guaranteed window seat and preferred early morning departure, especially if you are traveling during the peak seasons (March–May and September–November), it is advised to reserve your spot at least 1–2 weeks in advance. However, we often accept last-minute bookings; please contact us directly to check real-time availability for immediate travel.

The flight operates year-round, but the clearest views are in spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) when skies are sharp and visibility is excellent. Monsoon (June–August) brings clouds that often block the peaks, making cancellations more common. Winter (December–February) can also offer excellent views — cold but very sharp air.
The flight is operated by certified Nepali airlines — typically Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines or Shree Airlines, all licensed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal. All use specially configured aircraft where every seat is a window seat. HSJ will confirm your airline at the time of booking.
Bring a valid passport or ID, a fully charged camera or smartphone, and a warm layer for the early morning. Only small personal items are allowed in the cabin. Photography tip: hold your camera slightly away from the window glass rather than pressing it against it — this reduces reflections and gives sharper images. The morning light between 7:00–8:00 AM is ideal for mountain photography.
Many passengers on this flight are first-time small aircraft flyers. The planes are stable, well-maintained and operated by highly experienced pilots. Turbulence is minimal on early morning flights when the air is still and calm. The crew are attentive and will look after you throughout. If you are nervous, let your HSJ representative know and they will provide extra reassurance before boarding.
