Trip Overview
Tour Plan
Your driver meets you in the hotel lobby between 4:30 and 7:00 AM. The early start is deliberate — mountain air is calmest at first light, and that is when the Khumbu shows itself clearly. It is a short transfer through a still-waking Kathmandu to the domestic terminal, where you will meet your pilot and run through the safety briefing before boarding.
The helicopter lifts east out of the valley and the land rises beneath you — terraced fields giving way to pine ridges, then the first white summits on the horizon. You touch down briefly at Lukla, the gateway airstrip most Everest trekkers spend a fortnight walking on from, for a fuel check before the climb into the high Himalaya.
From Lukla the route follows the Dudh Koshi past Namche Bazaar and the hilltop monastery at Tengboche, then on over Gorak Shep to Everest Base Camp itself. In season you will pick out the tents scattered across the moraine, and beside them the Khumbu Icefall — a frozen cascade of broken blocks that climbers cross before dawn, while it is still locked in place.
This is the moment the tour is built around. The helicopter sets down on the black rock shoulder of Kala Patthar, one of the highest landing points on earth, and you step out into air thin enough to notice on the first breath. Everest stands directly in front of you, its south face unobstructed, with Nuptse and Lhotse crowding the skyline to either side. A quarter of an hour here is enough to understand why people walk twelve days for the same view.
Helicopters do not land at Everest Base Camp itself — glacier movement and aviation rules rule it out — which is why Kala Patthar, and the higher vantage it gives over the whole Khumbu, is the landing point instead.
You descend to Hotel Everest View, among the highest-altitude hotels in the world, where the terrace looks straight up the Khumbu Valley to Everest and Ama Dablam. Breakfast here is optional and charged separately — tell us when you book, or order on the day. The drop in altitude is deliberate either way: this stop lets your body settle before the flight home.
The route back retraces the valley in fuller light, the peaks behind you now and the terraced foothills widening as you drop toward the capital.
You are back on the ground in Kathmandu and at your hotel before noon, with most of the day still ahead of you. Door to door, the whole experience takes four to five hours.

Safety is the first priority. If weather conditions are unfavorable, the flight will be rescheduled to the next available clear day or fully refunded as per HSJ policy. We monitor forecasts from the evening before and contact you if there are any changes to your departure time.

Only small personal items are permitted due to strict weight limits: camera, phone, water bottle, light jacket, and essentials. No backpacks or carry-on luggage. You can leave your bags at your hotel during the flight.
The price includes: helicopter flight (return from Kathmandu), all airport taxes and fuel surcharges, hotel pick-up and drop-off in Kathmandu, an experienced high-altitude pilot and crew, supplementary oxygen, and all government permit fees. Breakfast at Hotel Everest View is optional and costs extra.
Breakfast at Hotel Everest View is optional and not included in the standard price. It can be added at an extra cost — ask us when booking or inform the crew on the day. The hotel offers a set breakfast menu with views directly of Mount Everest.
Dress in warm layers. At Kala Patthar (5,545 m) temperatures can be below freezing even in summer. A down jacket or fleece, thermal base layer, warm gloves, and a hat are recommended. Wear sturdy shoes — the landing area is rocky. Sunglasses are strongly advised as UV intensity at altitude is high.
Yes, but all permits are arranged and included by HSJ. You do not need to do anything separately. A government-issued photo ID (passport) is required on the day of your flight for permit verification at the airport.
