Trip Overview

The Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is the fastest way to experience the roof of the world. In just 4–5 hours you fly from Kathmandu into the heart of the Himalayas, land at Kala Patthar at 5,545 metres — one of the highest helicopter landing points on Earth — and see Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam up close. No weeks of trekking. No altitude acclimatisation schedule. Just a window seat and the world's highest peaks in front of you.

The flight stops at Hotel Everest View (3,962 m) for a scenic breakfast overlooking Everest before returning to Kathmandu. Hotel pick-up and drop-off in Kathmandu is included in the price.

What to Expect

Your day begins with an early morning hotel pick-up between 4:30 AM and 7:00 AM — calm air is critical for mountain flying, so early starts are standard. The helicopter flies east from Kathmandu, pauses briefly at Lukla (2,845 m) for a fuel check, then climbs into the high Himalayas past Namche Bazaar, Tengboche monastery, and Gorak Shep before landing at Kala Patthar.

At Kala Patthar you step out, feel the thin air at 5,545 m, and photograph Everest from directly below its south face. The helicopter then descends to Hotel Everest View for a 45-minute breakfast break with unobstructed Everest views across the Khumbu Valley. The return flight to Kathmandu takes about 45 minutes, with hotel drop-off before noon.

Who Is This Tour For?

Anyone who wants to see Everest but cannot spend 12 days trekking. The tour is popular with business travellers on tight schedules, families with young children, senior travellers, and anyone who is curious about the Himalayas without the physical demands of high-altitude trekking. Minimum age is 5 years. There is no maximum age, but passengers with serious heart conditions or severe respiratory problems should consult a doctor before flying at altitude.

Frequently Asked Questions

The total duration is approximately 4–5 hours from hotel pick-up to hotel drop-off, including the flight to Lukla, Kala Patthar, breakfast at Hotel Everest View, and the return to Kathmandu.

No. Due to glacier movement and safety regulations, helicopters do not land at Everest Base Camp. Instead, we land at Kala Patthar (5,545 m), which offers the closest and clearest panoramic view of Mount Everest. You can see EBC below you from Kala Patthar.

The helicopter lands at Kala Patthar at 5,545 metres. During the flight it may briefly reach around 6,000 metres while crossing ridges in the Everest region.

Safety is the first priority. If weather conditions are unfavorable, the flight will be rescheduled to the next available clear day or fully refunded as per HSJ policy. We monitor forecasts from the evening before and contact you if there are any changes to your departure time.

Yes. HSJ operates with experienced high-altitude pilots, certified helicopters, and strict aviation safety standards approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN). Supplementary oxygen is available on all flights.

Yes. All helicopters are equipped with supplementary oxygen systems for high-altitude safety. Crew will advise you on its use before departure.

A maximum of 5 passengers plus the pilot per flight, subject to total passenger weight. Weight limits are strictly applied at high altitude.

Hotel pick-up is between 4:30 AM and 7:00 AM depending on conditions. Early morning departures are essential because mountain weather is calmest and visibility is best before midday. Your exact pick-up time is confirmed the evening before.

Yes. The minimum age is 5 years old. There is no maximum age limit. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Note that the high altitude (5,545 m) is physically noticeable — most children tolerate the short exposure well, but let us know about any health concerns when booking.

Only small personal items are permitted due to strict weight limits: camera, phone, water bottle, light jacket, and essentials. No backpacks or carry-on luggage. You can leave your bags at your hotel during the flight.

The price includes: helicopter flight (return from Kathmandu), all airport taxes and fuel surcharges, hotel pick-up and drop-off in Kathmandu, an experienced high-altitude pilot and crew, supplementary oxygen, and all government permit fees. Breakfast at Hotel Everest View is optional and costs extra.

Breakfast at Hotel Everest View is optional and not included in the standard price. It can be added at an extra cost — ask us when booking or inform the crew on the day. The hotel offers a set breakfast menu with views directly of Mount Everest.

Dress in warm layers. At Kala Patthar (5,545 m) temperatures can be below freezing even in summer. A down jacket or fleece, thermal base layer, warm gloves, and a hat are recommended. Wear sturdy shoes — the landing area is rocky. Sunglasses are strongly advised as UV intensity at altitude is high.

Yes, but all permits are arranged and included by HSJ. You do not need to do anything separately. A government-issued photo ID (passport) is required on the day of your flight for permit verification at the airport.

HSJ is a locally owned and operated Himalayan travel company with over a decade of experience. We offer transparent pricing with no hidden costs, safety-first operations with certified aircraft, and personal service. We are not a reseller — we operate directly with licensed helicopter operators and accompany you throughout the experience.
