Overview
Experience 10 days trekking through untouched traditional villages to reach the holy lake Bhairav Kunda. Bhairav Kunda, one of the holiest shrines for Shamans, bears the name of Lord Shiva's destructive form.
Both Hindu and Buddhist devotees travel to this holy mountain lake at a height of 4200 meters every year around the time of the Bhadra (August) Full Moon to offer respect and bathe to wash away sins.
Journey Route to Bhairav Kunda
After 5-6 hours driving from Kathmandu, the trek starts at Jalbire. We travel through a mixture of beautiful mountain scenery and the terraced fields and characteristic houses of rural villages from different ethnic groups.
You will spend your first night experiencing the 'Newari' culture of Jalbire. Your Guide will give a short talk on trekking, altitude sickness and the highlights of the trek. These include the holy Bhairav Kunda, the incredible Himalayan scenery and the life style of nomadic people unchanged by time.
Your trail winds along an old trade route between Nepal and Tibet. through a number of unspoilt Buddhist villages, past chortens and Sherpa houses. The unusual climatic and geographical mix make this area a naturalist's dream and a mecca for those who appreciate traditional cultures.
Along the trail you will experience spectacular views of mountains in Tibet and the Jugal Himal section of the Himalayan Range, which includes the peaks of Dorje Lakpa (6966), Madiya (6257M) and Phurbi Ghhyachu (6637m).
On the final day of the tour we take a bus to Kathmandu.

Important Information
Best time to do this trek
The Bhairab Kunda Trekking is best for Spring (February, March, April, May) and Spring (October, November). Spring / monsoon trekking (June, July) is affected by the rain but summer trails can be an advantage for an enthusiastic botanist. The walking trails are crowded in the spring and autumn, but the routes are not packed in moon and winter and you can really enjoy the nature.
Trekking difficulty: Moderate
The Bhairav Kunda Lake Trekking is a moderate-level trek in Nepal. It requires little or no previous experience in mountaineering. Past trekking experience will be the asset. Physical preparedness for this trek atleast 2 weeks prior to the trek would be advised. Stairs climbing, jogging, cardio exercises and squats would be best. Before you start your journey, our travel specialists will provide you with brief training to provide you with information on location and security precautions.
Please Take Notice of this being Camping Trek . Food will be prepared in a camp kitchen, while guides and porters ensure that necessary provisions are carried to prepare high-energy, nutritious and tasty food.
Phone and Internet
Since it is this a camping trek, it is unlikely that you would have access to the Wi-fi and internet connection from data pack may not be efficient unless you are in city areas or villages.
Charging of your devices
Since it is this a camping trek, it is unlikely that you would have access to the electricity to charge your most gadgets unless you are in city areas or villages. It would be advisable for you to carry a power bank.
Drinking Water on the trek
This being entirely camping trek, sufficient amount of water would be needed to carried all the way. Filling up water is quick. Taps in, out or in guesthouses mean that there are plenty of places to fill your bottles and/or your water bladders. This could be where you stay, a lunch stop, or a shared public tap used by locals whereever possible. Use an efficient sterilization method to make sure your water is safe and not contaminated in anyway.
Obtaining Permits for the trek
You will need permits and TIMS Card for this trek. Our company will arrange those for you.
Please do not forget to bring 4 passport size photos for them.
Insuring your Security
Both participants in the tour should receive health insurance covering at least medical and emergency evacuation. In emergency situations, helicopter evacuation is provided but you must ensure that the evacuation cost is covered by your insurance. Of course, you also want cover for personal losses or damages, cancelation of flight or trip, etc.
Luggage limit for the trek
Often this depends on the trek and the maximum altitude gain. Each porter carries between 15 and 30 kg on average in the mountain region for trekking. There is up to 40 kg of a camping pack. We usually assign one porter to our two trekkers. 15 kg of luggage is allowed per person on the trek. The health of our porter crew is strictly guaranteed.

Please keep this thing in your mind that there are some airport touts and scam artists who take advantage of tourists. They might offer to carry your luggage and they want a large amount of money. Sometimes they intimidate our drivers and even take away their signs. Anyway...if you want someone to help you with your luggage you can give them NOT MORE THAN 1 - 2 DOLLARS. This is a small hassle that tourists sometimes face upon arrival at the airport. Do not stress about this but just be aware not to give more than a few dollars for their luggage handling if you choose to take someone's services. Nepalese in general are very kind and hospitable people.
The official currency of Nepal is the Nepalese rupee (NPR). Major foreign currencies such as USD, AUD, and EURO are accepted for VISA.
There are plenty of ATMs in these major cities, so you can easily withdraw cash from your foreign currency bank account. Credit cards are also accepted in some shops and restaurants, but they are not as widely accepted as cash.
On the trek, you will only need to use Nepali rupees. You can exchange your foreign currency for Nepali rupees at your hotel, money exchanges, or the airport. Himalayan Social Journey representatives will also be happy to help you exchange money.
If you have booked a trekking or multi-day tour with Himalayan Social Journey, the orientation meeting usually happens at your Kathmandu hotel around 4 or 5 pm. Our team will provide you with the specific details upon your arrival.

Let us know if you'll be extending your stay in Nepal, and we'll book your additional nights. Also, kindly share your flight details with us to facilitate a smooth pick-up and drop process.

However, if you prefer to have a room to yourself or if you're traveling alone, you can choose the "single supplement" option. By selecting this option, you'll have a private room during the trip, but please note that there will be an additional cost for the single room arrangement according to tour / trek.
For each tour date, there will be several separate groups, each with a maximum of 14 people and their own experienced English-speaking guide. During the trek, there will be a suitable number of porters available to carry your luggage. Additionally, if you prefer to do a private tour or trek with your own group, that is also possible.
